Daisy Kutter

I read this a few weeks ago, but loved it! If you haven't read any Kazu Kibuishi, this is a great place to start. Next; Flight Volumes 1-5, Copper (online) and Amulet. He is my favourite comics writer/illustrator, the total package.

So Quilting...

... is tricky.

I think I should have started with something a little smaller and I also need to get to know my machine a little better. I kept breaking and shredding thread. But the quilting is almost done and tomorrow maybe I'll start the binding.

I've been reading the first volume of the 'Complete Peanuts'. I'm getting close to the end, but I just love the new early drawings, Snoopy is super cute.

First strip.

My First Quilt

So this is the start of my first quilt. I wanted to use a bunch of old t-shirts that were getting a little too warn out to wear. Because they were t-shirts I had to use Heat Bond Lite to fuse the t-shirt pieces to an old sheet so that I would be able to sew the pieces together. Once I had fused and cut all the pieces to size I did a little decorating. I don't have a free motion foot yet, so I did it with the straight stitch foot.

Once I had decorated as much as I wanted to I sewed the pieces together and then sewed on the edge (binding). Now I'm ready to start quilting.

More pictures soon.

Chester Brown Rocks!

I could sleep last night and after finishing Scarred for Life a skateboarding retrospective, I decided to finally read Louis Riel: a comic-strip biography by Chester Brown. I certainly heard good things and really liked his other work, but this was awesome! I wish I had read it before we went to Manitoba!

I LOVE Buffy

I had it on good authority that I would like Buffy, so I ordered it a month or two ago and like any book-a-holic put it on the shelf with the other 50 or so books I own but haven't read. Yesterday I picked it up and had to finish it this morning. It was fantastic! Once I read the rest of my unread comics (he he...) I am getting the rest! I might even check out the show?!

ATC > Artist Trading Cards

These are some small drawings that I am thinking about using for artist trading cards on Etsy. I am planning to start a store, but need to build up some stock before I get going. I'm not sure whether I'll add colour to these or not. I kind of like the black and white.

It's funny how you tend to come full circle in different areas of your life. I used to draw in this style all the time and I have recently become obsessed with comics and want to do a kind of memoir project, but have been having difficulty getting into a drawing style (by hand vs computer) and it hit me that this is the style that I love doing and that most people like of mine so?! Perhaps I've (re)discovered my style...

No Previous Experience

This is another Canadian story, a memoir that reads like fiction (I guess the best ones do!).

I've been reading quite a lot lately and thought I should let people know about good books! Anomaly by Anne Fleming was a great story about 2 sisters who each have unique stories/anomalies. It's especially cool because it is set in Toronto!

So, we have been settling into life in the Peter Patch as D. likes to call it. This past weekend was busy with a 'street festival' (more like a sidewalk sale that happened on the street) on a closed down George Street, Ribfest was on and Vinny tried to convince us to go, Friday night we saw some live music at the Black Horse Pub and the Spill and yesterday we rented a canoe and paddled on the river! We saw a triathalon in progress which was taking place near a very nice beach that we will be visiting asap!

The place is really great and cool even in this weather!

Visitor are welcome!

Sketches for Goose

Goose: a little too Pocahontas

Maggie: Goose's very appropriate friend.

Toad: Goose's little sister.

You'll be seeing more of them...

Goose Returns

Goose returns with a new look. I'm planning to shoot for a new Goose comic each week and some other drawings (hopefully one a day).

'DaD' Blank Page

I uploaded this 5 different times and each time the colour was off?!

I am still waiting for the internet hook-up, but I am starting to get back into the swing of things and this means drawing more often. I pulled out my drawing book yesterday and was at a bit of a loss, I so often want to spend time doing creative things, but find I have to convince myself that they are worth doing. That it's okay if that's the first thing you do in a day and that the other house stuff can wait! If you want to make a living being creative, you have to spend time being creative!
