The Case of the Missing Pancake

I was eating breakfast and Charlie needed to go outside. When we came back in, this is what my plate looked like. Hmmm... When I left I had several tasty bites of pancake left to enjoy.

Finnegan was sitting on my chair looking quite pleased with himself.

Then Charlie gave him the what for!

More Scarf Action

Scarf #3, a gift for G.

Scarf #4, a gift for A.

I think this is the longest one so far!

Christmas Morning

Charlie helping M open presents.

Brunch with the B/Hs. This isn't a great photo of anyone, but we had a great meal thanks to M.

Nap time by the heat vent after all of the excitement.

Nap time for the puppy too.

Scarf #2

This is my second (actually 3rd, I didn't get pics of the very first one) scarf present of the season. They were delivered to A+E on Sunday night and I think that they were both happy with them!

Now for more cutting and sewing!

Back in the Craft Room

I have been out of the studio for the past few weeks and with the arrival of one Charles Garnet Rider my time has been filled up with lots of short puppy walks. I finally got back at some sewing yesterday.

The following are some scarves I have been working for Christmas gifts, (hopefully no one is following the blog too closely!).

A few weeks ago all of the thrift stores had half price on all of their clothes. I stocked up on some dress shirts and put the collars and button hole strips to use!

This one is all thrift store supplies from the upcycled shirts to the super score on a couple or meters of blue corduroy.

This was my attempt at a machine stitched signature, but I think I need to get the free motion foot on!

This is the start of scarf # 2.

More to come when it's done. Hopefully this aft!

Curling Up

It's tough being a puppy. There is playing and peeing and eating and napping to be done, all the time!

A New Addition: Charlie

My friend Willow dropped around with a puppy looking for a home. Until she arrived I was determined that I didn't need a dog any time soon. Then I met Harley (now Charlie). The cats are unsure at best, but I think that they will come around.

We are working on potty training and crate training to start, but he knows his name and only barks when he's chasing the cats. (There may also have been a little howling in the night from the crate)

The happy family :)

Highlights from the Platnum Blonde Party

Enjoying the candy cigs.

The birthday girl.

Living Room Update 2

The old dining room hutch and giant couch are gone. And the Christmas tree is up, just waiting to be decorated. I will be keeping my eyes peeled charity shopping and on Kijiji.

Quilting Updates

I finally finished the binding on my crib sampler quilt last night. Binding is definitely my least favourite part, but I'm getting faster. Practice, practice, practice!

I finished the top of my cord quilt a few days ago and went to Quilter's Choice yesterday for backing (a beautiful purple batik!), batting and some other supplies. (Mom I definitely understand how you can drop serious cash there!)

I started quilting this one this morning and as you can see I have a little helper. Levi likes to run the quality control on all of my projects! He definitely keeps me in line!

Create Your Own Fabric

I got this 3 pack of 'Colorfast Sew-In ink Jet Fabric Sheets' a few weeks ago at the quilting shop and haven't gotten around to trying them out. Today I did. Above are the designs that I printed. They are drying and waiting for a hit with the iron and then a rinse out. I'm not sure what I'm going to make with them, but it is great to have custom, one-of-a-kind fabrics! They are about 8x10 so not for big work, but I am looking forward to exploring this a little more!

Living Room Update 1

A couple of shoots to show the progress and colour of the living room. The book case was from Ikea and the furniture isn't where it will stay, but it is definitely getting there! More to come soon I hope!

Quilt 2.0.1

So I got most of the top together over the weekend, but decided that I didn't like and didn't quite have enough of the the light brown, so I am reconsidering the options for the boarder. I may use a bunch of the scraps and see what I can do! I am really looking forward to playing with the quilting this time. I plan to use monofilament for the straight lines and then go wild with some multi-colour thread in the blocks.

Let me know what you think.

Quilt 2.0

This was in the early stages of my second quilt. I decided that a corduroy quilt would be super fun and I still like the idea, but with 2 cats, it is getting pretty hairy and it isn't even done yet! I have sewn a lot of this together. The next step will be the posts and sashing. I am hoping to have the top done by the end of the weekend!

I am still finishing the binding on my sampler quilt. Hand sewing is not my passion.

Living Room

I am quite literally watching paint dry today. But, I am about 80% done the living room, a project that has been postponed repeatedly since the Summer. I gave myself a deadline of tomorrow for the job because I start a new part-time web design gig tomorrow. The room has been a little barren for the past few weeks in preparation, so it will be great to get art back on the walls and some new curtains hung!

Pics to come asap.

Almost November?!

I can't believe that October is coming to an end, where did it go?

A and I have completed our last quilting class and just have the binding left to hand sew. I am thinking a wee movie marathon is in order to finish that up, maybe some Sex and the City. I have also been scrambling to finish my LONG overdue house painting projects before it is too cold to open the windows. The living room is next on the list. Yikes!

The fantastic Kijiji scavengers A+G found a drafting table for me that came with a cutting mat on top, HUGE one and a lamp for $50, I thought it was a steal, the cutting mat alone would be more. So, my studio is coming together. I think another bulletin board and some book organizing will finish the job and then some pics will be posted!

We had a lot of fun together, but in an effort to declutter and detach from stuff, I have retired 3 pairs of shoes that served me well, but are ready for a rest.

Good bye fun shoes!

Fall in Review: Wedded Bliss

One month ago I had the absolute pleasure of participating in the wedding of two of my very favourite people A+G. It was an incredible location and day. I think that this is the first wedding that I have attended (and I have been to A LOT of weddings) where I really understood the significance of the ceremony. There is something very brave and special in the act of declaring your love, with absolute sincerity, in front of all of the important people in your life. It was truly an inspiration!

Congratulations my friends :)

Fall in Review: Quilt Lessons

A + I signed up for a beginner quilting class and have been having a great time. It is a small crib size blanket and we both completed the top this week. We'll be basting in class this week!

The first 3 blocks.

Finished top on an angle.

I will some photos of A's as well. Just like at design school, it is amazing to see the really different results when a group of people complete the same project.

Finished quilt with matching pillows to come soon!

Horriblogger Updates... Finally

Forgive me readers, it has been two months since my last post.

The last 2 months have been action packed with lots of change, ups and downs, excitement, crafting, and so much more. I may have to break it down into a few posts, but I am back, with a new do to boot!

Trip Wrap Up

I was so diligent at the beginning, posting pictures and giving a daily post, but I ran out of steam. From Victoria we headed east on the 10th with stops near Lake Louise, Medicine Hat, Kenora, Minden and finally Kingston. On our way through Alberta we stopped at the Calgary Zoo, the Torrington Gopher Hole Museum and The Royal Tyrell Museum.

It was a long and tiring drive. Ontario is too big.

Day 6: Victoria

Sister, KHK and I went to Miniature World late morning today. It was cool if a bit creepy given the dedication of the model makers. There was the whole Canadian rail line in miniature form! And many great battles and a whole circus area. We all liked it but were getting hungry by the end.

We had intended to go to the bug museum as well, but there was some definite unhappiness about lunch so after we finally decided on a place we ate, then walked through the market and came back to J&Ks for a nap. Now some dinner and car packing are in order! Tomorrow we leave bright and early in hopes of hitting the Num Ti Jah lodge for the night and packing up the rest of Sister's things for the big trek east.

Day 5: Botanical Bay, Vancouver Island

We got up and had fantastic French Toast made be KHK and then slowly got ready for a cool, grey day at the beach. Sister drove the winding roads just past Port Renfrew to Botanical Beach where we had a lot of fun mucking about and taking photos in the tidal pools.

Between the three of us we took over 500 photos so that was just a sampling. On the way home we stopped at the Coastal Kitchen Cafe (I think) and shared Fish 'n' Chips, a big salad and sweet potato fries. It was tasty! KHK and I totally crashed in the car for a bit on the ride home.

As we re-entered the city I wanted to check out some flip flops at MEC, but it was closed. We came back to K&Js, transfered and looked at photos and then went to bed.

It was a fantastic day!
